DHS Secretary Napolitano, NCTC Director Olsen to Testify before House Homeland Security Committee on July 25
July 20, 2012
This hearing will be an opportunity for the Members of this Committee to assess and understand the current threats facing the Homeland
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, announced that on Wednesday, July 25 Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) Director Matthew Olsen will testify before the Committee at a hearing entitled “Understanding the Homeland Threat Landscape.”
King said: “U.S. counterterrorism and intelligence communities have made significant progress over the past 15 months since the killing of Osama bin Laden. However, even with the killing of the likes of bin Laden, Anwar al-Awlaki, and Samir Kahn, the terrorist threat against the Homeland continues –with terrorists adapting and new threats emerging. Since 9/11, al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists have launched four attacks on the U.S. Homeland – at Fort Hood, Little Rock, Times Square, and over Detroit. Dozens of other plots have been disrupted as well, including the recent plot to attack the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol with explosives-laden drones and another plot against the Capitol with a suicide vest bomb.
“This hearing will be an opportunity for the Members of this Committee to assess and understand the current threats facing the Homeland as well as those that are now emerging.”
