This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will consider H.R. 505, the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2007. Earlier this year, the bill was approved by the House Committee on Natural Resources by voice vote. I look forward to a positive result in the House and commend Hawaii's Representatives Neil Abercrombie and Mazie Hirono for their work to bring H.R. 505 to the House floor.
In the Senate, I continue to work with the Majority Leader to schedule floor time for S. 310, the Senate's version of H.R. 505. At this time, the Senate is preoccupied with passing appropriations bills necessary to continue government operations.
