King: Cutting Funding To NY Is Dangerous

Members of New York's Congressional delegation from across the aisle are denouncing the Obama administration's decision to cut Homeland Security transit grants to New York City. Long Island Congressman Peter King calls the move dangerous and unconscionable, coming less than two weeks after the attempted Times Square car bombing. Homeland Security will give the city 27-percent less this year for rails and 25-percent less for port security. Meanwhile, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says she's deeply disappointed with the news and is calling Homeland Security should redouble its efforts and increase security funding. Peter King, Congressman (R-Seaford NY) told John Gambling that cutting this funding is dangerous and unconscionable.
President Obama is scheduled to visit New York this afternoon to commend the efforts of federal law enforcement and the NYPD in the attempted Times Square car bombing. But at the same time, the Department of Homeland Security is announcing it is cutting federal anti-terror funds for New York City less than two weeks after the capture of suspect Faisal Shahzad for the failed May 1st plot. This has left New Yorkers is baffled with the timing of the announcement. "The President seems more interested in raising money for political campaigns than providing New York the money it needs to defend itself against Islamic terrorism" said Congressman King.
