Lawmakers dine on salmon, celery soup at the White House

House chairmen and ranking members were invited to a dinner at the White House on Thursday night.
The menu was chichi, with everything from celery soup with wild mushroom crisps to salmon with toasted saffron couscous pearls and, for dessert, a milk chocolate velvet cake.
“Rosemary and I had a pleasant conversation with the president,” Rep. Pete King (N.Y.), ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee, said, referring to his wife.
“The food was very good, but certainly not in the same league as the Dubliner.”
Earlier that day, King had had lunch with ITK at the Dubliner.
He stressed that going to the dinner at the White House that evening was earning him major brownie points with his wife.
At the White House, King sat next to Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.).
