Long Island’s five congressional representatives sent a letter today to House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi asking for a quick responses to requests for emergency disaster assistance.

The Congressmen, Reps. Tim Bishop, Steve Israel, Peter King, Gary Ackerman and Carolyn McCarthy, said hurricane relief and recovery should be the first thing Congress tackles when it reconvenes following Election Day.

“It is the responsibility of Congress to ensure that federal agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have adequate resources to assist states and local governments rebuild their infrastructure and property,” the letter said.

The congressional delegation also asked the House leaders to ensure the Small Business Administration and Department of Agriculture were properly equipped to assist individuals, businesses, farmers and fishermen hardest hit by the storm.
