Internships
Senator Casey is pleased to offer internships in his Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania offices to undergraduate and graduate students during the spring, summer and fall semesters. Interns will gain first-hand knowledge of the legislative process and of the daily operations of a Senate office by working with constituents and staff on issues affecting Pennsylvania. While our office welcomes all applicants, preference will be given to candidates with a Pennsylvania background.
Press and legislative internships, along with the Sullivan and Higginbotham internship, are only available in the DC office. Constituent services internships are available in the State offices.
Pennsylvania Office Internships
Constituent services internships are available for college and graduate students in all of Senator Casey’s state offices. Interns should possess poise and professional behavior, and demonstrate an interest in government service and assisting the people of Pennsylvania. Interns assist the Senator’s state staff with a variety of duties including constituent services, community outreach, correspondence, monitoring news outlets for daily developments, assisting with staffing of events, and assigned special projects. Interns will also perform a variety of administrative tasks such as greeting office visitors, answering phones, and filing. No stipend is provided and applicants with Pennsylvania ties are given preference.
Washington, D.C. Office Internships
Press Internships
Press internships are available to enthusiastic, professional college students or recent college graduates with an interest in politics and media. Intern duties include compiling press clips, media monitoring, writing press releases and supporting the daily running of the press office. Pennsylvania ties and early morning availability are strongly preferred. No stipend is provided, but the internship is available for school credit if approved by the student’s school.
Legislative Internships
Legislative internships consist of a combination of legislative and administrative work. Intern duties include but are not limited to legislative research, attending briefings and hearings, preparing briefing memos, drafting constituent response letters, checking the front office voicemail, sorting incoming mail, and data entry. Interns also handle a variety of miscellaneous projects that surface on a given day. No stipend is provided, but the internship is available for school credit if approved by the student’s school.
Sullivan and Higginbotham Internship
We offer two paid internships to qualifying Pennsylvania students.
The Leon H. Sullivan Internship, based in our Washington, DC office, provides an opportunity for undergraduate university students from Pennsylvania to gain access and exposure to the activities of the United States Senate and also work to further Leon Sullivan's vision for a better America and global community. The Leon Sullivan internship is available year-round. Senator Casey will select one candidate for the fall semester, the spring semester, the early summer and the late summer. The A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. internship is open to students enrolled in law school, or planning to enroll in law school, who are residents of Pennsylvania. Each summer, Senator Casey will select one applicant to serve as a paid intern for six weeks in the Washington, DC office. The internship will provide the opportunity to participate in the legislative process while working to further the cause of equal justice. Click here for a biography of A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr.

Please be sure to fill out all of the fields completely before submitting. If you wish to be considered for a DC or state office internship in Senator Casey's office, your application must be complete and submitted, along with your resume, by the posted deadline.
The deadlines for our upcoming intern sessions are at 5PM on the following dates:
- Spring Session: November 15 (The deadline for the Spring 2013 session has been extended to November 26, 2012.)
- Summer Session: March 15
- Fall Session: July 15
