Fortenberry Comments on Security in Benghazi

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Fortenberry questioned the circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2012 killings of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three other Americans at a hearing today before the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs. It was the first in an ongoing series of hearings surrounding the killings and attack on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi.

"We need to know why the Ambassador's expressed security concerns and calls for help were unmet. ... Why the U.S. compounds were left unsecured for so long after these attacks.  Why the official video narrative persisted so stubbornly, long after it was clear that the attack that killed Ambassador Stevens was terroristic in nature."

Fortenberry is the Vice-Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights and a member of the House Democracy Partnership.
