Leader Cantor Statement On The July Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement on the national unemployment report for the month of July:

“Despite gains last month, too many Americans remain unemployed. This month’s jobs numbers underscore the failure of the Obama Administration's policies. We won’t see any real change to unemployment until we change the policies that brought us here. The choice is clear: higher taxes or more growth. The President’s push for raising taxes on working families and small business owners is counter to the aim of creating jobs. Small businesses aren’t hiring, college graduates can’t find jobs and the economy keeps shrinking. Members of both parties agree, more taxes aren’t the answer. This week, the only plan that passed the House with bipartisan support was the plan to ensure that taxes don’t go up on any American.

“Seeing our Olympic athletes succeed on the world’s stage reminds us of the greatness we must constantly strive for as a nation. Republicans believe we can ignite the economic engine of this country once again. We have the talent. We have the capital. But the biggest obstacle to economic growth is the President’s insistence on higher taxes and dangerous defense cuts. This cloud of uncertainty means small business owners can’t grow, our national security is at risk and millions of jobs hang in the balance. We ask the President and Harry Reid to join us to stop the massive tax hike facing our country so we can finally see economic growth and jobs return.”
