Washington, DC – Today U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter released the following statement in honor of National Teacher Day (May 4th) and National Teacher Week (May 2-8th). The theme for this year’s National Teacher Day is “Great Teachers Make Great Public Schools.” Teacher Appreciation Week is sponsored by the National PTA and is a time to strengthen support and recognition for teachers.
“Today is a day to honor and recognize the contributions teachers make in our lives. Being a teacher is a tough job, but it is also one of the most important. We all have teachers who inspired us or took a friend or family member under their wing and helped shape our lives in a positive way. A quality education is the foundation for a strong future both individually and as a nation. All three of my daughters and I went to Jefferson County Public schools. We received a great education and were prepared for the future. To all those hard working teachers out there, I want to say ‘Thank You’.”
