March 2, 2010

Washington, DC – Today, 11 Colorado WWII Veterans ranging in age from 85 to 97, are making a historic return to Iwo Jima, 65 years after they left the battlefield.  Congressman Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following message to the veterans about their service and historic trip:

“I wish these courageous men a safe journey to this historic battlefield.  This year marks the 65th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima, one of the most historic World War II campaigns against Japan.  These men lead our country to victory then, and continue to provide leadership and inspiration to our country each and every day.  Their return to this site with the Arvada-based The Greatest Generation Foundation, reminds us of the important history and experiences the people of this country endured.  Their stories teach important lessons to all of about the resilience of our people, communities and nation.  I cannot express my admiration, respect and thanks enough to these men for their selfless service to our country – then and now.”
