Perlmutter, Coffman Hail GPS Project As Job Creator for State and Nation

Washington, DC –Today, U.S. Reps. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) and Mike Coffman (CO-06),  highlighted the new U.S. Air Force GPS contract awarded to Aurora-based Raytheon Co. as an example of the kinds of private sector jobs we need to add in order to help rebuild our economy.

The contract for the Next Generation CPS Control Segment will create more than 300 new jobs in Colorado, and will support operations at the growing Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora and Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.

Perlmutter said, “This contract will put hundreds of people to work in our state.  As we move forward with efforts to revitalize our economy, these are the kinds of jobs we want to have in our communities.  They are stable, long-term jobs supporting innovative projects to help move our state and country forward.”

Coffman commented, “This is welcome news in what has been tough times for jobs in Colorado.  The competition to bring good paying, highly skilled jobs to any area is fierce and this is exciting news for Aurora.   The aerospace industry has a long been a key component of Colorado’s economic engine and we must keep fighting to ensure it stays that way.  The hundreds of new jobs will also generate much needed indirect economic benefits for the community.”
