Lakewood, CO–U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), is pleased to announce the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) located in Golden, CO, is the winner of a $20 million grant advancing solar energy research. This grant is funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) signed by President Obama in Denver in February.

“I am extremely proud of the work being done at NREL as they continue to set the standard for excellence in renewable energy technology in the world. Becoming energy independent and protecting our environment while providing clean and fuel efficient resources is an important issue and essential to the progress of our nation,” said Perlmutter. “The past two years Congress increased its investment in NREL through the appropriations and now with the Recovery Act. These investments are creating hundreds of new jobs and new research facilities. When NREL benefits, so do the many renewable energy small businesses collaborating with them.”

Since becoming law, ARRA is responsible for helping create or save more than 1,100 jobs in the 7th Congressional District in the law enforcement, transportation, energy and youth services sectors. More than $450 million of ARRA funds are directed to projects and infrastructure repairs in the 7th Congressional District.
