Washington DC — Today U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter released the following statement related to the effort by Republicans in Congress to derail a welfare rule change.

“Today was nothing more than election-year games in Congress. Instead of focusing on putting people back to work the Republican majority insisted on derailing a proposal by the Department of Health and Human Services to get 20% more people off welfare than the current standard.  That plan gets more people off welfare and on to a payroll.  Twenty-nine Republican governors asked the federal government for this flexibility, and now that the Obama Administration granted their request, they changed their tune.  I do not support the Republican plan to keep more people on welfare and create fewer jobs.”
