"Political games and brinkmanship by Tea Party House Republicans are standing in the way of certainty our private sector businesses need in Colorado."

Washington, DC -- Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) urged the House of Representatives to remain in session in order to pass important tax credit legislation including the Wind Energy Production Tax Credit (PTC).  The U.S. Senate Finance Committee is considering a package of tax extenders today including a one-year extension of the PTC through December 31, 2013.  An extension of the Production Tax Credit has bipartisan support from nearly all Republicans and Democrats in the Colorado Congressional Delegation.

Perlmutter stated, "Yesterday the Republicans blocked tax relief for 98% of Americans, and today they are getting out of Dodge for August before extending the Production Tax Credit.  Political games and brinkmanship by Tea Party House Republicans are standing in the way of certainty our private sector businesses need in Colorado.  The PTC is set to expire on December 31, 2012, and if not extended will result in the loss of thousands of good-paying private sector jobs in Colorado and across the country.  The PTC is important not only to wind turbine manufacturers but to all the small businesses along the supply chain and the farmers and land owners who want turbines on their property.  The wind industry is not unlike others and needs certainty to invest for the future, and extension of the PTC would provide that certainty."

Perlmutter wrote House Republican leadership on July 19, 2012 urging them to include an extension of the wind energy Production Tax Credit (PTC). Additionally, Perlmutter and Rep. Cory Gardner (CO-04) sent a letter earlier this summer suggesting Representatives pass an extension of both the Production Tax Credit and agreement to move forward with building the Keystone XL Pipeline.
