Washington, DC -- Last night, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) voted for a budget plan utilizing Simpson-Bowles' recommendations for establishing the budget for FY 2013.  The bipartisan plan was sponsored by Reps. Jim Turner (D-TN) and Steve LaTourette (R-OH).  Below is Perlmutter's statement:

"I voted for the budget plan modeled after the bipartisan Simpson-Bowles commission because it is a balanced plan putting both spending cuts and revenue on the table.  It makes significant cuts big enough to matter -- $4.2 trillion in deficit reduction -- reforms the tax code to lower rates, broadens the tax base and reduces the deficit.  It's not perfect, but it is a start to real economic security for our nation.

The partisan Republican plan we are considering today is more gamesmanship and not a serious attempt to address the long-term economic stability of our country.  It ends Medicare for Seniors and forces young people to give up the hope of college just to pay for the average millionaire to get a $265,000 tax break each year.  These aren't Americans' priorities.  These aren't Americans' values.

I hope Congress will stop the games, stop punting and pass a responsible budget now."

Perlmutter was one of 38 Republican and Democratic members to support the bipartisan budget plan.
