FEMA: Hotels and Motels Can Register to Accept Hurricane Sandy Survivors

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has activated its Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program, at the request of the state, to provide eligible disaster survivors who have a continuing need for shelter because they are unable to return to their homes for an extended period of time the opportunity to stay in a participating hotel or motel. This initiative is intended to provide short-term lodging for eligible disaster survivors who are in shelters.

Disaster survivors who have already registered for assistance with FEMA have been contacted and directed to contact a participating hotel or motel to check in. Lodging expenses for eligible disaster survivors are paid for by FEMA directly to the lodging provider, with any incidental costs (for example – phone charges, room service, parking, etc.) the responsibility of the survivor.

There are currently over 400 eligible disaster survivors for this program in New York. Hotel and motel owners interested in becoming a participating TSA location, you may register at https://ela.corplodging.com/.
