Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management, sent a letter to Commissioner Robert Peck at the General Services Administration (GSA) requesting a complete list of all GSA-controlled properties. Rep. Denham received full backing from the subcommittee on this letter that further advances his agenda to eliminate government waste and provide oversight over the management of federal properties.
In this formal request, Chairman Denham asked for access to the database as it pertains to GSA-controlled properties and a complete list of all properties included in the database. Mr. Denham asked for all information pertaining to the properties including: the building address, square footage, estimated market value, how much the property costs the federal government to maintain, current building capacity, current building use, and other associated information.
“I have made it clear that eliminating waste and getting our fiscal house in order is a priority of mine,” said Rep. Denham. “I am focused on selling excess, underused federal buildings and will remain committed to providing the necessary oversight as Chair of the subcommittee.”
During the Subcommittee’s first hearing of the 112th Congress, Chairman Denham issued a warning to all federal agencies putting them on notice that he wants a list of excess and surplus properties and will request subpoenas if necessary. Since this hearing, over three weeks ago, the GSA has failed to fulfill multiple requests for lists of properties.
