Veterans Special Recognition Ceremony

Veterans Special Recognition Ceremony

It is my desire to honor all who served in our armed forces. That's why I sponsor the Veterans Special Recognition Ceremony every year. These men and women answered the call of duty. Some served during war time; some kept the peace. All were willing to put their lives at risk to protect our freedom and democracy. This ceremony will help show our appreciation.

Over the past ten years, I have recognized nearly 2,000 veterans who served during the periods of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam. The 2010 ceremony recognized the contributions of all who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and National Guard during the dates of 1941 and 1979.

Application information for the 2012 ceremony that will honor Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm veterans can be found below. The deadline to submit an application for this year's award is October 5.  To determine eligibility for the certificate, veterans will be asked to complete an application and submit a copy of their service discharge document or proof of service in the Diplomatic Corps or Merchant Marines. Veterans must be alive and a current resident of the 4th Congressional District of Florida to participate. Veterans who received the Southwest Asia Service Medal qualify for this program.
