July 09, 2010

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative David Price (D–NC) issued the following statement today marking the one year anniversary of the tragic ConAgra plant explosion in Garner, NC last year. A memorial service was held in Garner today mourning the four workers who lost their lives in the explosion.

"As a result of this tragedy, both lives and livelihoods have been lost. Although the plant is not in my district, many of my constituents worked at ConAgra, and the plant was a cornerstone of Garner and southeastern Wake County for nearly 50 years. Today, we know the reasons this accident occurred and steps have been taken to make our workplaces safer and prevent future accidents, but that does not change the fact that this tragedy continues to touch many lives across the Triangle region. Our hearts remain with the families, friends and coworkers of those who lost their lives, and our support remains with the community as it continues to weather the challenges this tragedy has created."
