Sun-Sentinel: Veterans job fair Saturday

Tax credits available for employers

By Marcia Heroux Pounds, Sun Sentinel

A job fair for veterans will be held Saturday at the Fort Lauderdale Armory, 400 SW 24th St., in Fort Lauderdale.

Sponsored by local Congressional representatives Ted Deutch and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the job fair is from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.

The job fair comes on the heels of new tax credits for employers that hire veterans, signed into law by the president on Nov. 21.

Employers that hire veterans who have been unemployed at least four weeks can receive a credit of 40 percent of the first $6,000 of wages, up to a maximum of $2,400. Emplyers who hire veterans who have been unemployed longer than six months can receive a credit of 40 percent of the first $14,000 of wages, up to a maximum of $5,600.

There also is a tax credit for hiring long-term unemployed veterans who have disabilities related to their service.
