Every South Dakota family must live within a budget and the federal government should do the same. Our tax dollars should be spent wisely on matters that are important to South Dakota and reflect our values. Instead, Congress and the President have embarked on a wasteful spending spree that has left our national debt at more than $15 trillion and a budget deficit for 2011 of $1.3 trillion. The Senate has failed to pass a budget for three straight years and despite the alarming size of the 2011 deficit, the budget proposed by President Obama for Fiscal Year 2012 would have continued the path to double the debt held by the public since he’s been in office within five years (2014).
