Leonia, one of the 70 towns that comprise Bergen County, is home to approximately 9,000 residents. It is located near the western approach to the George Washington Bridge.
Leonia’s location has influenced much of its history. For example, the close proximity to New York City is notable, with major universities, theatres, and performing venues contributing to the growth of arts and academics in this borough. Many twentieth-century talents emerged from Leonia, including the famous artists Harvey Dunn and Charles Chapman.
Leonia is also home to the Players Guild of Leonia, which operates the oldest continuing theatre troupe in the State of New Jersey. Its continuous performances since 1919 also make it one of the oldest theatre guilds in the United States.
