HR 5357 - National Guard to the border

Washington, May 25, 2010 - Today, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) applauded the Obama administration’s decision to deploy 1200 National Guard troops to the U.S. southern border to enhance law enforcement and border protection activities. In addition to the troop deployment, the administration has announced its request for an additional $500 million to be included in upcoming supplemental spending legislation.

“I applaud the president for realizing there’s a crisis on our southern border and that a show of force will have a positive impact down there,” said Rohrabacher. “However, this is only a first step.”

“If we can get the administration to support cutting off public benefits and curbing the economic incentives, we might be able to meet the monstrous challenge the massive flow of illegal aliens into our country poses to our well-being,” Rohrabacher stated.

Rep. Rohrabacher recently partnered with Rep. Harry Mitchell (D-AZ) to introduce H.R. 5357, the “Deploy National Guard Troops to the Border Act” [PDF], calling for an additional 3000 National Guard troops to be immediately deployed to the U.S./Mexico border.
