  5. President Obama's plan and its impact on Texas may be viewed in the link below.
  6. On January 1st, income taxes are scheduled to go up for 8.7 million middle-class Texas families. If Congress fails to act, every American family’s taxes will automatically increase -including the 98 percent of Texas families who make less than $250,000 a year and the 97 percent of American small businesses that earn less than $250,000 a year. I will not stop fighting until we reach a deal for the middle-class.
  7. The United States, the State of Texas and Congress have lost a true hero in Congressman Jack Brooks. My heart and prayers are with his family, current and former Colleagues here in Congress and the constituents he used to represent upon hearing of his passing last night. Congressman Brooks was a true patriot and devoted his time here on earth to public service. His presence with us will be deeply missed, but I know that his legacy will live on for years and decades to come. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
  8. I signed a discharge petition to force Speaker Boehner to allow a House vote. Middle class families don’t deserve a $2,200 tax hike this holiday season.

  9. The clock is ticking, and that’s why today I signed a discharge petition that will force Speaker Boehner to immediately schedule a vote on the Senate-passed middle class tax cuts.

  10. There are only 2 days left to request Inauguration tickets. If you plan to attend the inauguration and have not requested tickets, please visit my website to do so. After Friday, you will no longer be able to make those requests. Thank you in advance and have a great evening.
  11. What does extending middle class tax cuts mean?

By extending middle class tax cuts, every American will get a tax break on their first $250,000 of income. And income taxes won’t go up at all for 98% of American families and 97% of small businesses. If middle class tax cuts are not extended, a typical middle class family of four will see their income taxes go up by $2,200 in just a few short weeks Everyone agrees that taxes shouldn’t go up on middle class families.
  12. Just now, President Obama has called on you to push Congress to extend middle class tax cuts. I join President Obama in his call on Congress to pass a middle class tax cut bill. I ask you to Call Facebook and Tweet your member of Congress and tell them to support middle class tax cuts. When using twitter, please use #my2K
  13. Long-time civil rights leader Lawrence Guyot died at the age of 73 after dedicating his entire life fighting to empower the powerless and leaving behind a legacy that encouraged an entire generation to stand up for the cause. The death of civil rights activist and Washington D.C. statehood advocate Lawrence Guyot leaves behind a legacy of activism that spanned more than 50 years. Lawrence Guyot was a crusader for voting rights, human rights and statehood. He was a bright-eyed, feisty and tireless civil rights worker who spoke what was on his mind. He was deeply committed and he dedicated his life to what really was a revolution in race relations in America.

  15. With holiday shopping in full swing this Cyber Monday, a new report from the White House shows a looming middle class tax hike would be devastating to our economy, cutting consumer spending by 1.7 percentage points as the typical middle class family sees taxes go up by $2,200. It’s time to pass the middle class tax cuts now and bring economic security this holiday season.
