SOU Seating Chart

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

The Ohio congressional delegation -- House and Senate members of both parties -- are expected to sit together at tonight's State of the Union address.   Sen. Rob Portman came up with the idea, and Congressman LaTourette has served as the organizer.

The Arizona delegation will also sit together, and an empty seat in the Chamber will mark the absence of Rep. Gabby Giffords, who is recovering at a Houston rehabilitation hospital.  Gifford's husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, was invited to the State of the Union but will remain at his wife's side in Houston.  The congressional intern, Daniel Hernandez, who is credited with saving Giffords' life after the mass shooting in Tucson, will be at the address as a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama.

The new Speaker of the House, Ohioan John Boehner, will not be able to sit with his Ohio colleagues tonight, however.  He will be seated behind the President as he addresses the nation.
