New Year, new health care rules
Monday, January 03, 2011
Several provisions of the new health care law took effect on the
first of the year. One provision requires insurers that spend
less than 80 percent of premiums on health care services to provide
rebates to consumers. Another relates to the donut hole for
Medicare recipients with high drug costs. Those with flexible
spending accounts should also pay attention to new rules that
require a doctor's prescription in order to use your FSA for
over-the-counter medications, like cough syrup.
The Kaiser Family Foundation has a timeline, by year, of all the
changes resulting from the new health care law. There
were 25 provisions that took effect in 2010 and 21 changes happen
this year. For more detailed information visit the timeline
at http://healthreform.kff.org/timeline.aspx.
