IRS phishing scam alert
The Internal Revenue Service has issued a new consumer warning
regarding the fraudulent use of the IRS name in order to obtain
consumers' personal information. In this particular phishing scam,
several individuals have reported receiving an e-mail claiming to
be from the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility instructing
them to acquire a new Employer Identification Number.
The IRS does not communicate with taxpayers through e-mail, so
should you receive a similar e-mail, please do not reply to the
sender, access links contained in the e-mail, or submit any
information. Simply forward the message as-is to
phishing@irs.gov.
