American Job Creators - Euclid Precision Grinding
When I asked the small business community in NE Ohio to share
their thoughts on how federal rules and regulations hurt their
ability to create jobs, I was not sure what level of response I
would get. So far, it's been overwhelming.
I want to share with you the story of one NE Ohio small business
owner, Eric Barbe, President of Euclid Precision Grinding in
Willoughby. The company grinds components for airplanes, semi
conducting, and other crucial uses. In his detailed, one-page
response, Barbe listed "federal tax policy, monetary policy, and
the government's abject disregard for property rights" as some of
the government's key problems with job creation.
He also addressed burdensome taxes, noting the vast majority of
jobs are created by small business, but the "progressive tax code"
is a disincentive to small business growth. He said the
burdensome tax code and regulations -- coupled with the risk of
starting a business -- can crush the entrepreneurial spirit.
He asked: "Why would anybody work 60 hours per week,
mortgage their home as collateral to set-up a business, have to put
up with product liability, BWC, EPA, JFS, FUTA, health insurance,
and the risk of their business being unsuccessful, when they could
just as easily go and get a job with a 'big' company paying a
$100,000 per year salary with full benefits, work maybe 40 hours
per week, have zero headaches, and live just as comfortably?"
I want to extend my sincere thanks to Eric Barbe, and all
the other NE Ohio job creators who contribute to the American Job
Creators program. Your feedback has been invaluable, and I
appreciate it. I plan to continue this program for several
more months, so please continue to share your stories.
Steve.
