IRS Free File System

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Bainbridge Township) today announced that constituents in his district might be eligible for free, tax preparation services through the IRS Free File program.

The Free File program, which began in 2003, is available to those with a 2010 adjusted gross income of $58,000 or less.

To take advantage of this program, go to the IRS website and then click on the "Free File" icon.  This should take you to a list of 19 member companies that are part of the Free File Alliance.  Three of the commercial tax preparation software companies also offer services in Spanish.

"Free File software not only increases accuracy but delivers a quick turn-around on tax refunds, getting it to you in as little as 10 days," said Tim Hugo, executive director of the Free File Alliance.

LaTourette said the Free File Alliance has partnered this year with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), a service for low-to-moderate income taxpayers.
