Foreclosure Assistance
If you face the risk of
foreclosure, or are currently behind on your mortgage payments,
there are resources available to help you. First, I would encourage
you to contact your lender as soon as you realize you have a
problem. You could also contact any of the following government
resources.
Resources to Help Homeowners Avoid Foreclosure
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
HUD provides a variety of resources
for homeowners at risk of foreclosure. The Department funds free or
low-cost housing counseling services throughout the country. HUD-approved counselors can help homeowners
understand the law and their options, organize your finances and
represent you in negotiations with your lender. You can find a
HUD-approved housing counselor near you
by going to www.hud.gov or calling 800 569-4287 or TTY 800 877-8339.
