Blue Dog Coalition

Oversight and Regulatory Review

The Blue Dog Coalition examines the thousands of regulations issued annually by the federal government with the objective of identifying those that are overly burdensome and modifying rules problematic to job creation.

Oversight and Regulatory Review:  Blue Dogs send letter to heads of 12 major independent federal agencies

On January 18th of this year, President Obama issued Executive Order 13563 calling on every federal agency to review their regulations to ensure they “promote predictability and reduce uncertainty,” “take into account benefits and costs,” and “identify and use the best, most innovative, and least burdensome tools for achieving regulatory ends.”

However, independent agencies are not subjected to the executive order, and to date, only one has voluntarily implemented the requirement.

The Blue Dogs believe that overly burdensome and outdated regulations slow economic growth and impede job creation.  That is why members of the Blue Dog Coalition leadership sent letters to the heads of 12 major independent federal agencies requesting that they comply with the executive order and conduct an open and transparent regulatory review.
