Washington, D.C. – Utilities in Western North Carolina should be applauded for their work quickly restoring power to many thousands who lost electricity in the wake of the biggest snowstorm to hit the area in more than a decade, Congressman Heath Shuler (D-Waynesville) said Monday.
“I want to thank the companies and the employees who have been working hard throughout the weekend to restore electricity to our region,” said Congressman Shuler. “Progress Energy alone has more than 700 people working in the snow and cold to repair the damage, and has brought back power to more than 40,000 homes so far.”
Progress Energy, French Broad Electric Membership Corporation, Haywood Electric Membership Corporation, Duke Energy and other utility companies have been restoring power to our community as fast as possible.
“With continued hard work and a little help from Mother Nature, these companies hopefully will have electricity brought back to Western North Carolina by Christmas Eve,” said Congressman Shuler.
