Ready to Continue Working for Families of WNC
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Heath Shuler retook the House of
Representatives oath of office on Tuesday, January 6th as the 111th Congress officially
began.
“There are undoubtedly many challenges facing our nation today and in the weeks and
months ahead. However, America’s greatness has always come from our ability to meet
and overcome any challenge laid before us,” said Rep. Shuler. “As we begin the 111th
Congress, I am confident that today’s challenges are tomorrow’s opportunities. We must
put aside partisan differences and do what is right for America to stabilize our economy,
create jobs, and protect American families.”
Rep. Shuler’s committee membership will not change in the 111th Congress. He remains
the Chairman of the Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Rural and Urban
Entrepreneurship. Additionally, he will continue to serve on the Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee and the Natural Resources Committee.
No longer being a freshmen member of Congress does hold another distinct advantage –
a greatly improved office. During his first term Rep. Shuler had an office on the fifth
floor of the Cannon Building, which is often referred to as the “Freshmen Hall.” The fifth
floor was added on after the Cannon Building’s construction and cannot be reached by
many of the building’s elevators, making it difficult for visitors to find.
Rep. Shuler’s new office is now located on the fourth floor of the Cannon Building -- a
move that is only a few hundred feet in actual distance, but miles ahead in accessibility.
The phone number for the D.C. office remains 202-225-6401 and contact information for
all district offices remains unchanged.
