It’s Time for GOP to Stop Playing Politics and Put Economy First

Today, Moody’s Investors Services announced they would downgrade the U.S. credit rating if Congress doesn’t act to strengthen the long-term economic outlook for the nation, adding even more uncertainty for American businesses and families.

Yet just after that warning, and despite the potential consequences, Speaker Boehner splashed cold water on any hope of a bi-partisan deal before Congress goes on recess again.

Boehner’s lack of confidence shouldn’t come as any surprise. House Republicans, running what has been declared the worst Congress ever, have only provided eight days between now and the election for Congress to try to complete the long list of priorities that should have been addressed already - like passing a jobs bill or tax cuts for middle class Americans.

If Speaker Boehner’s claim to be “the most straight-up, transparent person in this town” is true, then he should tell American families and small businesses when Republicans will finally come to the table to grow our economy and provide economic certainty to millions of Americans.

We urge our colleagues to focus on building our economy instead of tearing down our President. Millions of families are depending on Congress to do its job.
