On this date, the House Office Buildings were named to honor three famous Speakers of the House: Joseph Cannon of Illinois, Nicholas Longworth of Ohio, and Sam Rayburn of Texas.
The House of Representatives opened a third office building
February 23, 1965
The House of Representatives opened a third office building. Named for Speaker Sam Rayburn of Texas, the Rayburn Building remains the most modern of all the House office buildings. Construction began in 1962 and the building was fully occupied in April 1965.
The House vote to acquire the Ford Building
February 20, 1975
On this date, by a vote of 273 to 134, the House passed a supplemental appropriations bill that allocated $17 million for acquiring and renovating the present-day Ford House Office Building on 2nd and D Streets, SW, Washington, D.C.
