Friedrich St.Florian’s winning design balances classical and modernist styles of architecture, harmonizes with its natural and cultural surroundings, and connects the legacy of the American Revolution and the American Civil War with a great crusade to rid the world of fascism.

Time Magazine, in their May 3, 2004, review of the new World War II Memorial, critically commented, “Il Duce would have loved it.” Some of the early criticism of the memorial elements centered on their similarity to some of the Nazi and Fascist architecture of the 1930s and 1940s.
