First Responders

I have said repeatedly that public safety needs to be our top priority. As a former police officer, I know there is no substitute for well trained and equipped first responders to keep our communities safe, and I have supported federal funding to get these critical resources directly to our local police and fire departments.

Through the COPS program, police departments in the 12th Congressional District have received millions of dollars to hire hundreds of additional police officers. In the same way, the Assistance to Firefighters program has provided manpower, vehicles and the latest technology to our firefighters. The 9/11 attacks underscored the need to always be vigilant and prepared. Our first responders put their lives on the line everyday, and this dedication deserves our full support.
