2012 Congressional Art Competition Student Information and Release Form

 

Each spring since 1982, a nation-wide high school arts competition has been sponsored by the
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over 650,000 high school students have been involved
since the inception of this program. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize
and encourage the artistic talent in the nation.

The Eighth District Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the district.
The winning artwork from the district will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year. The
exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners throughout the country.

Artwork entered in the contest must be two dimensional, weigh less than 15 lbs., and may be up to
28”x28”x4” including the frame. Submitted artwork is not required to be framed however the winning
submission must be framed for display in the U.S. Capitol therefore all submissions should account for
the additional size that a frame may add. The artwork may be:

  • Paintings: including oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.

  • Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers, etc.

  • Collage

  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints, etc.

  • Mixed Media: use of more than two medias such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.

  • Computer-generated Art

  • Photography

 

All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution. For further guidelines, please read the Official Competition Guidelines.

Deadline: Submissions must be delivered to Congressman Kissell's Fayetteville, Rockingham, or Concord District Office by 5:00pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2012. In addition to your artwork, you must also submit a typed 2012 Congressional Art Competition Student Information & Release Form signed by the student, teacher, and parent/guardian.

Submissions will be judged by an independent panel and will be announced prior to May 24.
