Why I voted Yes on S.Con.Res. 50
December 05, 2012
I voted Yes on S.Con.Res. 50, which expresses the sense of Congress that that the Administration should continue working to implement the position of the United States to promote a global Internet free from government control and preserve and advance the successful multistakeholder model that governs the Internet today.
Some countries have considered expanding the jurisdiction of the United Nation's International Telecommunication Union, which currently regulates the international operation of traditional telephone service, to apply to the Internet. This resolution is intended to make a clear statement that Congress opposes any attempts to regulate the Internet in such a manner and instead should maintain the multi-stakeholder governance model that promotes a global Internet free from government control.
The resolution was approved by a vote of 397 – 0.
