Sullivan Responds to U.S. District Court Decision on Deepwater Drilling Moratorium

Washington, Jun 22, 2010 - Today, Congressman John Sullivan issued the following reaction to a U.S. District Court Judge’s decision to block the Obama Administration’s deepwater drilling ban.

“I believe this was the right decision, and I applaud the U.S. District Court for blocking the Obama Administration’s ban on offshore drilling.  We must never lose sight of the fact 30% of total U.S. production of crude comes from the offshore, keeping these offshore reserves under lock and key would not only put Oklahomans out of work, but would send energy and gas prices through the roof and increase our reliance on foreign oil.  The BP oil spill in the gulf was the worst environmental disaster our nation’s history, however I believe this tragedy is a result of the lack of a responsible safety culture within BP and not the oil and gas industry at large. We must not allow the Obama Administration to roll back the gains we have made in finding new ways to develop our own energy resources in an environmentally friendly way as we will need more oil and natural gas to help meet growing demand for energy in the coming decades.”
