Sign on to the RSC's "Cut, Cap, and Balance" Agenda

American Family Business Institute, May 27, 2011 - Dear Representative:

I am writing to you on behalf of the American Family Business Institute, to encourage your support for the “Cut, Cap, and Balance” agenda developed by Representative Jim Jordan and the Republican Study Committee (RSC). The AFBI supports “Cut, Cap, and Balance” and is urging all members to sign on to the RSC’s letter to Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

The United States has surpassed a sustainable rate of federal spending; the dramatic increases have roughly doubled the budget to over 25 percent of the economy. The overspending has led to overtaxing of family business owners and farmers in the form of the death tax – the most unfair and economically destructive tax in the entire IRS code. Though the death tax accounts for less than 1% of federal revenue, Washington’s spending addiction has caused many in Congress to scrape for every penny, even at the expense of jobs and economic prosperity. The federal government is borrowing, and spending, at fiscally irresponsible rates, more than doubling the rate of publically held debt in the last 5 years, therefore it is unreasonable to consider a debt ceiling increase.

The RSC agenda to “Cut, Cap, and Balance” is a bold measure outlining substantial and durable reforms to Washington’s spending habits. It is important we take control of the federal budget now, before the fiscal deterioration is exacerbated because of additional borrowing and overspending. Representative Jordan and the RSC have laid out solutions in a comprehensive, achievable action plan, but it is imperative we move quickly and unite to ensure future financial stability. We urge you to support the “Cut, Cap, and Balance” agenda, lend your name to the RSC’s letter to Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor to restore fiscal responsibility in federal spending.

Sincerely,

Dick Patten

President, American Family Business Institute
