Boswell Presents Senate-passed Farm Bill to House Leadership
Wednesday September 19, 2012WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Leonard Boswell (IA-3) today submitted the Senate-passed version of the Farm Bill to the House Rules Committee for consideration as an amendment to H.R. 3409, the Coal Miner Employment and Domestic Energy Infrastructure Protection Act.
“Because House Republican Leadership has decided to punt on the Farm Bill, I am submitting the bipartisan Senate-passed Farm Bill in a last ditch effort to try to get a five-year bill passed before House Republican Leadership adjourns to go back to their districts to campaign thus ending the least productive session in a generation.” Boswell said. “While I support expanding domestic energy production, my constituents tell me they want a Farm Bill, and they want it NOW, and therefore getting a Farm Bill passed is my highest priority at the moment.”
If Boswell’s amendment is made in order by the House Rules Committee, the House will finally be able to vote on Farm Bill by the end of the week.
“Inaction on a long-term Farm Bill is inexcusable and creates the very uncertainty Republicans constantly decry. Leadership needs to bring this to the floor while there is still some time to act. Let’s do the right thing for our farmers, our producers and all the Americans they feed.”
