Jobs & The Economy

After facing the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, our nation’s economy has pushed back from the cliff and is growing again. However, there is still much work to be done as too many Iowans are out of work and too many middle class families are struggling to make ends meet.

In the 112th Congress, we must return to the foundation of this great nation which is building American goods with American hands. I will continue to support tax credits for Iowa’s small businesses, incentives for Iowa’s renewable energy industry, and measures that protect American jobs from being outsourced. As your Congressman, I will encourage additional funding to maintain Iowa’s high-quality education system, and federal investment in our state’s roads and infrastructure. As a farmer, I will fight for a strong safety net that keeps family farms growing. I encourage you to read more about the legislation and projects I have supported that have created jobs in Iowa and put our state on the road to recovery.

“I would like to thank my fellow conference committee members for meeting halfway. We on the conference reached a bipartisan, bicameral compromise on what I believe is a strong bill that will be the most substantial job-creating legislation this year,” Boswell said. “Though it’s not perfect, this bill restores much-needed certainty, creates jobs, repairs our roads and bridges, invests in our infrastructure, and strengthens our economy.”

"This funding will help the City of Des Moines complete construction of the Southeast Connector, a major transportation infrastructure project and top priority of the city. The project will bring a wealth of economic opportunity to Des Moines and central Iowa, creating jobs and expanding business opportunities in the region."

“I am pleased the Postal Service has withdrawn its plan to close offices, which would have greatly impacted rural Iowa. I have been encouraging Postal Service leaders to take a more creative approach to this issue instead of completely closing offices and I’m glad they made the right decision. I will continue to work to ensure any future cost-saving measures do not risk jobs and hurt businesses that depend on this vital service, especially in our small Iowa towns,” Boswell said.

"I am looking forward to working in a bipartisan fashion with my fellow conferees to reach a compromise,” said Boswell, a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “We must put politics aside and focus on a bill that upholds public safety, rebuilds America and saves or creates millions of jobs, including 17,600 in Iowa.”

“This funding will help the Des Moines airport keep its facility in tip-top shape,” Boswell said. “These infrastructure improvements ensure the airport can continue serving its millions of annual travelers and will benefit the local economy.”

“Last week, Democratic and Republican Senators overwhelmingly voted to generate jobs, repair our roads and bridges, invest in our infrastructure, and strengthen our economy. I am proud to stand with 90 of my colleagues in introducing this bipartisan bill to the House. Sending the bipartisan Senate transportation bill to the President’s desk before the current highway program expires at the end of the month will bring certainty that state and local governments need to pave the way for a stronger America," Boswell said. "Now is not the time for a House Republicans’ ‘my way or the highway’ No-Jobs agenda. Instead we need swift House action on the Senate bipartisan package that will save or create 17,600 jobs for workers here in Iowa."

“Following suit with the President’s call for an ‘all of the above’ approach on energy policy, 33 of my colleagues in the House have joined me to voice support for finalizing a strong biodiesel requirement without delay,” Boswell said. “Increasing the biodiesel volume requirement by a modest 280 million gallons will create 10,000 American jobs, boost the economy and help curb our country’s dependence on foreign oil and these rising gas prices. To delay this decision any further would risk it all.”

The cost of tax-credit bonds to the government is a fraction of the cost of funding projects outright, they incentivize private investment in public projects that improve overall economic activity.
