Energy & Environment

In order to meet America's energy needs in the 21st century and reduce our country's dependence on unfriendly, foreign oil, we must continue to invest in and grow our diverse domestic energy industry. Renewable, homegrown energy sources such as biofuels, wind, and water are important to creating jobs, supporting rural communities in Iowa, and reviving our economy.  I have fought hard for more than 30 years to make sure that Iowa remains a leader in the renewable energy industry and a top producer of homegrown fuels.

I will continue to support a well-rounded energy policy in the 112th Congress that puts Iowans and Americans first by growing our domestic energy industry and promoting affordable, clean, alternative energy sources. I will work across the aisle to support financial incentives that inspire innovation in Iowa's renewable fuel industry, and I will continue to push for the construction of a renewable fuel pipeline that will transport Iowa made ethanol and other biofuels to the East Coast, increasing demand and creating jobs for fellow Iowans.

“I would like to applaud the hard work of the students, teachers and administrators of Des Moines Central Campus on being recognized as one of the top energy efficient and energy conscious schools in the country,” Boswell said. “Their efforts should serve as a model for other schools across the nation. Congratulations on a job well done.”

“Following suit with the President’s call for an ‘all of the above’ approach on energy policy, 33 of my colleagues in the House have joined me to voice support for finalizing a strong biodiesel requirement without delay,” Boswell said. “Increasing the biodiesel volume requirement by a modest 280 million gallons will create 10,000 American jobs, boost the economy and help curb our country’s dependence on foreign oil and these rising gas prices. To delay this decision any further would risk it all."

“I am extremely disappointed by my Republican colleagues’ refusal to take up this amendment which would have helped curb the devastating unemployment situation our country’s service members face when returning home,” Boswell said. “This is further proof that House Republicans do not believe the oil companies who lease federal land and harvest its natural resources should be held to the same standards as government contractors and subcontractors."
