DeGette Statement on Republican Repeal of Health Reform

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) issued the following statement after House passage of H.R. 2, the Republican “Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act.”  Congresswoman DeGette joined all but three Democrats in voting against the bill, which would pull the rug out from under the millions of Americans who can finally afford health coverage thanks to last year’s passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

“I am extremely disappointed that so many of my colleagues supported this disingenuous legislation,” said DeGette.  “Across the country millions of Americans are already benefitting from reform and with today’s vote Congressional Republicans turned their backs on children with pre-existing conditions, seniors, young adults and thousands of others in the First Congressional District of Colorado who can finally afford health care as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

“Thankfully, we know today’s vote is the end of the line for the Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act.  Today’s action was a political stunt aimed at mollifying extremists in the Republican Party, and did nothing to address the most pressing issues facing our country.  The American people have been very clear: they are tired of politicians playing political games, and they want leaders who provide solutions to our country’s pressing problems.  The Democrats in Congress are committed to finding ways to help get Americans back to work, and I hope that our Republican colleagues will join us in pursuit of that goal.”
