Reid Meets with Representatives from the Nevada Fraternal Order of Police

Nevadans in Washington for National Police Week

May 15, 2008

Washington, DC— Nevada Senator Harry Reid today met with representatives from the Nevada State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) who are in Washington as part of National Police Week.  During the meeting, the representatives presented Reid with the official flag of the Nevada State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police in recognition of his support for the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act.

“Police, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians are on the front line every day to ensure the safety of all Nevadans,” Reid said. “This week, while the nation commemorates Police Week and honors the service and sacrifice of our first responders, it is only right that we in the Senate offer more than mere words of thanks.  With strong bipartisan support, we are taking steps to pass the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act, helping first responders secure a better life for their families.”

Reid’s deep commitment to first responders helped bring the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act to the Senate floor for debate and will guide this legislation to eventual passage.
