Dent Statement on September Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15) issued the following statement on the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) September Employment Report:

“While news of a drop in the unemployment rate is always welcomed, the nation’s labor force participation rate remains at its lowest level since the Carter Administration, indicating countless Americans have simply lost hope in finding a job. If the labor force participation rate were at the level it was when Barack Obama was inaugurated, today’s unemployment rate would be hovering around 11%.

“The addition of 114,000 positions in September represents yet another month of weak job growth. The number of jobs being created in this economy is not keeping pace with population growth. It’s difficult to be satisfied with reports that confirm the country is only tiptoeing through a lackluster recovery. There is little doubt American job creators are capable of leading a strong economic resurgence. But until this Administration demonstrates a commitment to enacting pro-growth policies, employers will remain cautious and our recovery will continue to move at today’s disappointingly slow pace.”
