About the 3rd District

Introduction to AZ-CD3

Spanning from New River to Phoenix, East Glendale to Paradise Valley, Arizona’s Third Congressional District covers much of the Sonoran Desert in the Phoenix-Metro area. Comprised of Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Carefree, Cave Creek, Anthem and New River, the district has seen a more than 10 percent increase in population from 2000 to 2010, and is now home to more than 700,000 constituents.

Residents work primarily in the private sector, and make up much of the middle to upper-middle class of the Phoenix-Metro area. Individuals work in downtown and northern Phoenix in professional, scientific, management, educational, health and retail services.

At its birth, Phoenix was a stop for pioneers traveling through the new western frontier that has developed to a sprawling metropolitan center. Today, the Valley of the Sun is bursting with businesses focusing on new technology and investing in alternative energy. While snowbirds flock to Arizona’s Third Congressional District for the warm winters and retirement, new families move to growing neighborhoods for community and proximity to the nation’s sixth-largest city.

Residents and guests of Arizona’s Third Congressional District enjoy hiking at the grand Piestewa Peak in Phoenix, horseback riding in Cave Creek and New River, and shopping in Paradise Valley and Anthem. The 1964 Republican Presidential Nominee and late Senator Barry Goldwater made his home in the shadow of the iconic Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley. Other notable residents include former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, champion boxer Muhammad Ali, former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner and musician Alice Cooper.

Arizona’s Third Congressional District is home to a young, growing population of hard-working Arizonans providing new and innovative ideas to move Phoenix and America forward.
