- My heart goes out to all of those affected by the horrible, senseless tragedy today in Newtown, Connecticut. Let’s keep the victims and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.

I am humbled that Chairman McKeon has chosen me to lead the Armed Services Committee's Readiness Subcommittee in the 113th Congress. I look forward to ensuring that our dedicated servicemen and women are properly and effectively resourced, both as they are conducting their missions and when they return home.

- 71 years ago today, our nation was attacked at Pearl Harbor, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Americans and the beginning of U.S. involvement in World War II. We must always remember the sacrifice of those who perished on that fateful day and the bravery of the individuals who fought back however they could. Their sacrifice will live on and their selfless example will continue to inspire us...and our fellow Americans into the future.See More
My father was a veteran of World War II, and his guidance has been an instrumental part of my life. As we remember the individuals who fought for our nation that day on Oahu and later across the Pacific Theater and in Europe, let’s also keep in mind the brave men and women of our all-volunteer force currently serving our nation, as well as their families. Those who’ve fought for the cause of freedom, from this nation’s inception through today, are the reason America is the greatest nation the world has ever known. - Folks, Rob will be here shortly to take your questions in a Wednesday edition of Facebook Friday. I was pleased to see Westmoreland County and Virginia's Northern Neck getting some great attention in the Travel section of the New York Times. I am truly blessed to be able to drive home to Montross each night: http://travel.nytimes.com/2012/11/25/travel/virginias-lost-history.html?ref=travel&_r=0- I’d like to wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday with friends, family, and loved ones. As we celebrate the many things we’re thankful for, let us not forget our fellow citizens who aren’t quite as fortunate this year. Americans are resilient, and I know that together we can rise out of these difficult times. Finally, let’s keep in mind our servicemen and women currently serving overseas, as well as their families back home. It is because of their service and sacrifice that our nation is the greatest in the world. May God bless you and your families, and may God bless the United States of America.
