USDA: Ashtabula could get 1200 new jobs by 2014

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

More than 1,200 jobs could be headed to Ashtabula County where the USDA has approved a Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) project.  The project sponsor, Aloterra Energy LLC, will locate a new biomass conversion facility in Ashatbula.  This project could translate to $50 million in annual earnings.   The project goal is to establish more than 50,000 acres of giant miscanthus, a warm-season grass that can be converted into energy.

LaTourette has worked with USDA and Aloterra to push the Department of Agriculture to select Ashtabula as a BCAP project.  Today, USDA announced four new BCAP projects, and Ashtabula stands to gain more jobs than other projects in Arkansas and Missouri.  This is the only BCAP project in Ohio.
